A loro volta, questi ultimi sono divisi in Eubatteri e Archeobatteri: un&#8217;importante differenza\u00a0riguarda le sequenze degli RNA costituenti i ribosomi. <\/p>\n<p>I ribosomi sono gli organuli deputati alla sintesi proteica. Sono costituiti da proteine e RNA ribosomali (rRNA) che si assemblano a formare una subunit\u00e0 maggiore, di 60S negli Eucarioti e di 50S nei Procarioti, e una subunit\u00e0 minore, rispettivamente di 40 e 30S, per dimensioni complessive di 80 e 70S. Gli rRNA negli Eucarioti sono quattro, di 28,18, 5,8 e 5S: nei Procarioti sono tre, di 23, 16 e 5S. <\/p>\n<p>La seguente tabella riassume le differenze pi\u00f9 significative nella sequenza degli rRNA tra i tre domini in riferimento agli rRNA 16S o 18S; con Y s\u2019intende un nucleotide con base azotata pirimidinica qualsiasi (U o C), con R una purina (G o A), con N una base qualunque. differenze di sequenza non corrispondano a differenze funzionali, esse sono abbastanza significative da essere usate come marcatori molecolari per la classificazione di microrganismi e per stabilire le distanze filogenetiche in modelli evolutivi. Gli ultimi due si sono separati pi\u00f9 recentemente, ma la divergenza evolutiva che ha portato gli Archeobatteri \u00e8 avvenuta vicino alla radice dell\u2019albero senza portare ad una particolare evoluzione, perci\u00f2 sono considerati i pi\u00f9 primitivi; l&#8217;omologia di sequenza con i pi\u00f9 evoluti, gli Eucarioti, si pu\u00f2 riscontrare solo in strutture evolutivamente molto conservate, come sono appunto gli rRNA ribosomali.
